Whispering Sands uses basic biodynamic principles to try encourage healthy soil, healthy pasture and holistic happiness on the property.

We use the services of Trina Hayes, a  Biodynamic Consultant, to help understand what we need to do and when to do it.

Originally over-stocked gutless sand, now we have pasture that can stay green most of the year with no reticulation.

What is Biodynamics?

Biodynamic agriculture is a form of alternative agriculture very similar to organic farming, but which includes various esoteric concepts drawn from the ideas of Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925). Initially developed in the 1920s, it was the first of the organic agriculture movements.

Biodynamic farmers strive to create a diversified, balanced farm ecosystem that generates health and fertility as much as possible from within the farm itself. Preparations made from fermented manure, minerals and herbs are used to help restore and harmonize the vital life forces of the farm and to enhance the nutrition, quality and flavor of the food being raised. Biodynamic practitioners also recognize and strive to work in cooperation with the subtle influences of the wider cosmos on soil, plant and animal health.

HOW TO START IN BIODYNAMICS

TRINA HAYES, Biodynamic Consultant

Trina is very passionate about Biodynamics and has studying and practising the principles and concepts for more than 15 years.

She offers consultancy sessions to Biodynamic Beginners in and around Perth Metro and Swan Valley areas to assist them with starting out with the Biodynamic process. She will help small back yard gardeners as well as small property owners.

She can walk you through what you need to get started, advise you of when you need to do what, as biodynamics is very much linked with the movement of the planets.

She can assist you with setting up a biodynamic compost heap, as well as show you how to mix and spread the preparations.

Trina totally understands that this is a very big subject, with many different layers to it but she will suggest how to just take that first step. When you are ready for more she will happily assist.

She also recognises that not everyone will want to be completely biodynamic and can offer alternative organic suggestions.

She can recommend which books and courses are helpful.

Trina has an initial  2 hour call out fee of $120 which includes travel to anywhere within a 20km radius of Upper Swan.
